Memorial Scholarship Award

Do you have a loved one who was part of the LGBTQIA+ and/or recovery community who has passed away? Honor their memory by participating in the Memorial Scholarship Award.

The Memorial Scholarship Award is a personalized monetary award funded by family and/or friends on behalf of their loved one who has passed away and who was part of the LGBTQIA+ and/or recovery community. The purpose of the award is to pass recovery forward to someone who has worked hard to get their life back together and who needs extra support and/or is ready to take an additional step.

To qualify to receive this award, the recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of The Dandelion Hive.

  • Have at least six months of continuous sobriety.

  • Be actively working on their continued sobriety, wellbeing, and goals.

  • Be willing to meet with and share their journey and goals with potential award presenters.

To establish an award in your loved one’s name and honor:

  1. Think about your wish to honor the memory of a loved one who has passed away and who was part of the LGBTQIA+ and/or recovery community. Maybe they passed from an overdose or mental health struggle. Maybe they were active in recovery and passed from natural causes or an illness. Maybe they were active in the LGBTQIA+ community and worked to uplift and help their community.  If you wish to pass recovery forward to someone else in their honor, this is a great way to do that!

  2. Fill out the application and schedule a conversation with the Director about the process.

  3. Commit to annually funding or fundraising a scholarship in the amount of $500 or more to be put into The Dandelion Hive’s Memorial Scholarship Fund. This is considered a donation and is tax deductible under 501c3. The “Support Us” page on our website has information about how to do small group fundraising.

  4. Each year around your loved one’s birthday, anniversary of their passing, or any other date that is important to you, select an eligible recipient of your choosing to present your award to in honor of your loved one. The Dandelion Hive will work with you to help you choose a recipient that you connect with.

  5. Host a celebration of your choosing and present the recipient with a check from The Dandelion Hive’s Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of your loved one. This celebration could be a dinner or cookout, a fun activity, or anything that connects you to the memory of your loved one. The recipient will be given a plaque with the name and picture of your loved one to commemorate this award and remember them by.

  6. Let us know what you wish to share about your loved one’s story, to be featured on our website on the “Memorial Scholarship Award'' page, along with some information about the recipient(s) of your award. Please note that some recipients may want to remain anonymous online due to their status as a person in recovery and as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Their general situation and how the award will help them can be posted anonymously.
